Fikerte
Fikerte, now 60, is one of the oldest Beta Israel women. She lives in a village called Shinfa which is close to the Sudan boarder.
Fikerte and her late husband of 40 years, Getachew, moved just outside the city of Gondar nine years age, hoping to have the chance to move to Israel.
Fikerte and Getachew had one daughter, who left Ethiopia for Israel 10 years ago. She lived in Beersheba for 5 years, until she lost her battle with cancer.
Getachew lost hope upon hearing about his daughter's death. He fell sick with sorrow.
He had hoped for a chance to immigrate to the land of Israel. Unfortunately, this never came to pass, as he succumbed to his disease a year ago.
Fikerte is now living alone in the “Key After” in a humble hut. During rainy seasons, the hut serves as poor refuge from the elements. Her supplies are very limited. She needs blankets and food. She musters all the strength she has each day to make pottery to sell for food, but oftentimes it is not enough.
We have provided her Ethiopian Birr, Ethiopian currency, to help her temporarily, but we must help her find a permanent solution. Fikerte is one of many elderly widows who are waiting, hoping to make Aliyah. Do you have love and compassion in your heart to help us stand with her however we can? Will you partner with us to help save her life?
